BEWARE of the DREAM STEALERS

We’re around the holiday season right now getting ready for 2017 and the new year and the new you. So, as you are gearing up for your next chapter I want to explore a topic that quite often stops people dead in their tracks. Specifically, I want you to beware of the dream stealers and the hope killers.

As you get the inspiration to do something extraordinary and take your life to the next level  understand, there is going to be all kinds of opposition and resistance from those around you.

Naysayers, who are going to shoot down your dream and say: Who do you think you are? What experience do you have? What background do you have? Do you know how hard that is? Or worse they'll say something patronizing like: “oh, good for you”

Yes, vocally it’s encouraging, but physically it’s completely patronizing and condescending. I’m sure you’ve experienced that.

It’s like you have this dream and you know you can make it happen but you are the only one who believes. A lot of times, for our big dreams and big goals  there is no evidence that we can make it happen. It’s just our belief that fuels the drive. We’re the ones that believe.

I tell people at my events all the time, there’s a book by Thomas Stanley called, “The Millionaire Mind” where he talks about in the United States, 83 percent of millionaires are first generation millionaires. Meaning they did it on their own. They didn’t have riches spoon-fed to them. They weren’t lucky, trust fund babies. It was on their own steam and their own free will. They just went for it and made it happen.

What that also means is, they did not grow up in a million dollar environment. In other words, they did not have the family background or the training but the drive had to come from somewhere. It had to come from a belief, a faith, a decision that said “hey, I can do this!”. Even though they had the hope stealers, and the dream killers around them.

As you look outside of your world, outside of your current circle of influence and start to look closer at some better references for yourself, to get better examples, you’ll find all of them, anybody, who did anything extraordinary had to overcome the dream stealers and the hope killers. It’s your charge and your responsibility to have the creativity and the tenacity to resist those individuals and that energy, to get to where you want to go.

I believe that if you’re watching this you are a great spirit. A few weeks ago on Twitter, I posted this is,

``Great spirits will always find violent opposition from mediocre minds``.

It’s from Albert Einstein. Here you are, going for this big dream and big goal, and you’ve got this resistance that’s pulling you back. Understand, all the champions of our time have had to go through it, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Richard Branson. It doesn’t matter who it is. There’s this incredible pull to stop you from getting to where you want to go and it’s your responsibility and your charge to own the song that’s inside of you. One of the biggest regrets you could ever have is to go to your grave with your music still trapped inside of you. Let your gift out.

Find your creativity. Find your tenacity. Right now is the time to make it happen. I dare you to take a shot, and make 2017 the best year of your life.
