Find the Joy in Your Life

Its so easy to get caught up with what’s not working, on what we don’t have and what we need to get done. Survival and short term thinking can easily become the dominant focus of our lives. And before we know it, days, weeks and even years fly by and we are no where near what we truly want.

Not for lack of ability, or skill or opportunity…quite simply, we just get caught up. In reality, we’ve gotta pay the bills, get the groceries, pick up the kids, fix up the house and we should work out, see our friends more and go the extra mile at work. It doesn’t leave a lot of time or head space for finding our joy.

I remember reading the end of one of David Bach's books where he asks Oprah Winfrey, ``when was the last time you felt joy?`` And she honestly couldn't come up with an answer and the answer she finally did come up with was years ago. Imagine that, the most powerful woman in the world not experiencing joy.

Then, last week I was listening to a radio show where a survey had been done by people 45 years and older asking them what they wish they had done with their lives. Do you know what the number one answer was? Can you guess?

The number one answer was travel more. They kept putting it off, they always wanted to see the Taj Mahal or the polar ice caps or have lunch on a side walk cafe in Paris but they never took the time. Now looking back they feel the regret and the missed opportunities. So, today they have a nice new kitchen but they missed out on living.

Reality and the necessities of life happen to us all but it’s what you choose to do about it that makes the biggest difference.

Find your joy. Live your life.
